A Downtown DeLand barber has been charged with sexual battery on a person younger than 12.

Frederick Neske, 51, of Freddy’s Old School Barber Shop at 106 W. Rich Ave., was arrested Jan. 31 after a 9-year-old girl reported a five-year history of sexual abuse by Neske.

The abuse is alleged to have happened at a DeLand home.

According to the charging affidavit, the child had heard a radio program about a 9-year-old who became pregnant after being raped, which prompted the girl to report a series of sexual abuses, starting from when she was about 4 years old.

Neske arrived at the house in DeLand while deputies were taking a statement from a family member, according to the report.

He is currently being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
