Travel to West Volusia’s most beautiful trails, parks and springs at the second annual Spring to Spring Family Fun Ride and Trail Celebration on Sunday, March 1. The ride begins at Lake Beresford Park and finishes with a lavish barbecue, games and celebration at Blue Spring State Park.

The event offers ride options of from 8 to 35 miles, mostly on trails through four of Florida’s most picturesque parks and springs. Riders of all ages and abilities will enjoy the safe and scenic paved trail as it winds from Lake Beresford Park to Blue Spring State Park, with options for Lake Monroe, Gemini Springs and Green Springs parks.

Last year’s ride included riders ages 6 through 76, on all types of bicycles. Many prizes were awarded, including bike gear, a refurbished child’s bike and gift certificates.

This year will feature more prizes, including an adult bike.

Riders check in at 8 a.m. March 1 at Lake Beresford Park, 2100 Fatio Road in DeLand. Preregistration is now open online and is recommended.

Children and casual riders can ride to the Blue Spring State Park picnic area for games and picnics.

Longer options include a 3.5-mile lap through DeBary on mostly back roads, although caution is required before riding on to as many as three additional parks. Rest stops will be available at several places, including the Enterprise Museum. Longer options of up to 52 miles can be arranged.

“The ride will increase awareness of Volusia County’s Spring to Spring Trail, an ecotourism jewel now part of the St. Johns River to Sea Loop, an emerging 260-mile multi-use Florida SUNtrail that runs from Titusville to DeBary, to Palatka and St. Augustine, and along the Atlantic coast to Titusville,” said Maggie Ardito, president of the alliance. “The Loop provides nonmotorized access to a natural and historic corridor featuring hidden treasures of Central Florida.”

The ride will benefit the alliance, a Florida 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to advance, advocate, support, promote and protect the loop. Those interested in helping are asked to email info@River2SeaLoop.org.

The alliance, in partnership with Titusville and Brevard County, will help advance the trail with the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop Summit as part of the Trail Trifecta in Titusville March 18-21. Visit River2SeaLoop.org for more information and online ride registration.
