Larry Gans, a retired postal worker, spent more than 30 years delivering mail in New York before coming to Florida.

Florida House of Representatives District 26 candidate Patrick Henry came out to participate. "This is not a political issue. This is about everybody," Henry said. "How about veterans - not even just veterans, anybody - who rely on getting their medicine delivered? Who rely on the post office to communicate?"

Mae Frances Mullings is a registered nurse who has worked in Volusia County for 43 years. She was inspired to organize the rally because defunding the postal service is not right, she said. In under 23 hours, she managed to gather a group of around twenty to protest outside of the DeLand post office this Saturday.
More than a dozen people gathered on the sidewalk in front of the U.S. Postal Office in DeLand, 336 E. New York Ave., on Aug. 22 as part of “Save the Post Office Saturday,” a national rally.
The United States Postal Service has recently become a political flashpoint, and current Postmaster General Louis Dejoy has come under fire.
The national movement, organized by the public policy advocacy group Moveon.org, was locally arranged by Mae Frances Mullings, a registered nurse.
