Masks prevent us from spreading COVID to others

Editor, The Beacon: 

As is the misunderstanding of many people, the laws requiring the wearing of a mask are not primarily to protect the wearer, but rather to preclude an infected individual from spreading the disease to others. 

Because of this and the general acceptance by the public in DeLand, Mr. Stevenson should thank all of us mask-wearers for reducing the chance of him contracting the disease — and let us know where he will be maskless so we can avoid the area.
