Shoestring Theatre in Lake Helen is opening its 2021-22 season with two events in August — the Season Kickoff and the 11th annual Young Artist Showcase.

For the 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, annual Season Kickoff, Bob Sollien has gathered your favorite performers to present an overview of the upcoming season. This will include scenes from each of this coming season’s productions, presented in the form of a readers’ theater. There also will be musical selections from the two musicals, Young Frankenstein and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. This preview for the season guarantees to have you buying season tickets so you don’t miss a show!

We will present awards from past seasons, with special thanks to our wonderful volunteers. There will be exclusive 6-7 p.m. backstage tours to show off the improvements and hard work performed during the pandemic timeout.

We are asking for a $5 admission to cover refreshments.

Reservations are not required. The show will last about two hours.

The next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 14 and 15, Shoestring proudly presents the 11th annual Young Artist Showcase. On Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m., the young performers will take the stage to present an extravaganza of musical theater old and new.

This talented group auditioned earlier this summer and have been working with their coaches in order to dazzle you with their skills. Our veterans this year include Kayla Gelovich, Jillian Lamboglia, Brihanna Gayton, Jaidyn Richardson, Lorenzo Richardson, Maya Swain and Sophia Mercado. Newcomers this year include Elina Deleon, Natalie Rodriguez and Sean Thomas.

The 10 performers worked one-on-one (sometimes one-on-two or -three) with our veteran performers and instructors, Tiffany and Ayo Demps, Bernadette Siudock, Andrea O’Reilly, Joshua Freeman and Anne Sollien, to polish their skills and add to their stagecraft toolkit. This production has a song list to please everyone, so reserve your seats today! Join us to celebrate our new journey after a long dark pandemic!

Tickets cost $15. Reserve your ticket online at our website at shoestringtheatre.net. Student tickets cost $10 and are only available through the box office by calling 386-228-3777.

To mask or not to mask; that is the question!

We are asking our audience to wear masks while inside the theater. Performers onstage will not be wearing masks, so you can see and hear them without any barriers; but even they will be masked when offstage.

We want everyone to gather safely and considerately. So even if you are vaccinated, a mask marks the responsible path to take in these unsure times.

You’ll find Shoestring Theatre at 380 S. Goodwin St. in Lake Helen. See you at the Shoe!
