BEACON PHOTO/AL EVERSON HOSPITALIZED — Fred Lowry, center, is on the dais at a County Council meeting this summer. At left is County Chair Jeff Brower; Council Member Heather Post is at right. At today's County Council meeting, Brower announced that Lowry has been hospitalized for three weeks with COVID-19. Lowry, pastor of Deltona Lakes Baptist Church, was criticized earlier this year for a Memorial Day sermon he preached espousing radical ideas, including the claim that the government has been lying to the people about the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic.

Volusia County Council Member Fred Lowry is in the hospital with COVID-19, County Chair Jeff Brower announced today.

Brower gave an update on Lowry this morning as the Volusia County Council meeting got underway, addressing Lowry’s empty chair during roll call.

“He is not here, today. He is in the hospital, wrestling with COVID-19,” Brower said. “I think it’s been about three weeks now. Fred will be in our prayers, and we look forward to his return.”

Lowry, pastor of Deltona Lakes Baptist Church, found himself in hot water this summer after a Memorial Day sermon he preached caught the attention of viewers outside the congregation.

In the May 30 sermon, Lowry called the COVID-19 pandemic a fabrication and endorsed other fringe talking points, including claims that President Joe Biden had stolen the 2020 election.

Lowry, who is 67, represents the Deltona, DeBary and Osteen areas of West Volusia. First elected to the County Council in 2014, he was re-elected in 2018 to the District 5 seat. Before joining the County Council, Lowry served as a city commissioner in Deltona. He is senior pastor at Deltona Lakes Baptist Church.

  1. He’s clearly hiding and not sick. After all, this is a hoax. According to him. Now I don’t know what to believe!

  2. We wish him a long recovery from the hoax, ’cause only cucks get hospitalized. I guess he didn’t shove enough horse paste up his butt. The dying Trumptards all ask for tots and pears to get better, but is it ever Jesus’ fault when he dies? Maybe, just maybe, the Christians that helped developed the vaccine were the miracle that he was praying for. He was just stupid to get in the god provided metphorical boat when the flood waters started to rise…
