The search is over because the best wings can be found at Bethune Grill of Stetson in DeLand, located next to Sunshine Bowling Center at 595 E. International Speedway Blvd.
A family-owned-and-operated business, the late Audrey Hines opened the first Bethune Grill location in Daytona Beach in 1997. The new DeLand location was opened this year, in February, by her son Shannon Hines. “We wanted to branch out and introduce more people to the wings,” said General Manager Brinay Bain. “We thought West Volusia would be a good fit. It’s a central area, and everyone passes through DeLand. It’s a prime location!”
Famous for their popular honey wing sauce, Bethune Grill’s chicken wings are like no other. “Moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside, sweet and spicy, it’s the best of both worlds, the perfect wing,” said Brinay.
Created by owner Shannon Hines, the honey chicken wing recipe is a family secret, and something customers just can’t get enough of. “Everybody constantly asks what’s in the sauce,” said Brinay. “I just say love.”
Created with care, the honey wings are first cleaned, seasoned, lightly breaded, and then fried to perfection before covered in their famous sauce. “I’ve had people come in here and say they hate chicken with breading,” said Brinay. “I say just try it, and once they do, they need more. They’re addicted!”
In addition to their famous wings, Bethune Grill’s other popular items include the Southern macaroni and cheese, seafood rice, chicken mac bowls, their homemade desserts, and their blue raspberry and strawberry lemonade. “We literally make everything with love, and everything is homemade,” said Brinay.
Connected to Sunshine Bowling Center, as well as featuring a pool table, arcade games and outdoor seating, Bethune Grill is a great place for not only amazing food, but entertainment as well. “We renovated our patio, and in the coming weeks we’ll have a live band on Fridays and Saturdays,” said Brinay. “There will also be TVs outside with games on, and the bowling alley has a full bar that services the restaurant where customers can order drinks. This is one of the few great entertainment spaces in West Volusia.”
Bethune Grill will soon be offering online ordering and delivery, as well as waffles on their menu.
