An explosion of flavor awaits you at Botanas La Herradura!
Opened in May of 2019 by owners Dalia and Juan Vargas, Botanas La Herradura originally began as a food truck before the couple decided to open a permanent location. “It was just a crazy idea we had,” said Dalia. “My husband wanted to do something different, so we decided to open up a convenience store.”
Selling everything from produce and meat to smoothies and desserts, Botanas La Herradura has a little bit of everything. “We even have prepared foods,” said Dalia. “Our best sellers are our tacos, quesadillas, and our shrimp ceviche is really popular, as well as our michelada, which is like a bloody mary but made with beer instead of liquor.”
Botanas La Herradura also recently opened a meat shop within their store. “It’s a new part of our business, that we opened two months ago,” said Dalia. “We have pork, beef and chicken, as well as any other items you might need for your dinner. People can swing by one place and get everything here.”
Selling authentic Mexican food, Botanas La Herradura does not shy away from spice, and everything they prepare is made from scratch. “Most Hispanic restaurants and stores claim to be selling authentic Spanish food,” said Dalia. “But a lot of those places use canned tomatoes to make the salsa, or cut out an ingredient because some might find it too spicy. We don’t do that. We sell it how it is, we make it from scratch, and we use every ingredient that needs to be used.”
Botanas La Herradura offers daily specials, such as their $1.50 Taco Tuesdays; their Quesadilla Wednesdays, when customers can get a quesadilla and a fruit water for $7.50; as well as their Torta Thursdays, which is a hot sub and fruit water for $7.50.
Botanas La Herradura is located at 538 E. International Speedway Blvd. in DeLand. Their hours are 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Sunday–Thursday, and 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Friday–Saturday.
