Deltona seeks to connect labor and employers
MORE MEDICAL OPPORTUNITIES — Halifax Health, the Daytona Beach agency that built and operates a 90-bed hospital in Deltona, is in the market for personnel to add to its nursing, patient-registration, maintenance, housekeeping and dietary staffs. From left are Charles Freeman, R.N.; Tonja Williams, director of operations for Halifax Health in Deltona; and Tony Garner, R.N., nurse manager.

For the second time in as many months, Deltona has undertaken to bring government agencies and private companies in need of help together with willing workers.

Deltona hosted its second job fair Oct. 25 at The Center at Deltona. Unlike the previous employment expo at the end of September, when Deltona municipal agencies invited prospective workers to join their ranks, the more recent expo included private-sector employers looking to fill their own vacant positions. About 30 public and private entities set up tables and warmly greeted those who stopped to ask what opportunities are available.

The event proved to be quite a draw, even before it started.

“They had 200 people waiting at the door to get in before they opened,” Acting City Manager John Peters said.
