Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations begin Saturday, Jan. 15, with events in DeLand and Deltona.
In DeLand, an MLK Jr. worship service is set 6-8 p.m. Jan. 15 at The Sanctuary Church, 401 E. Taylor Road, with Bishop Paul S. Morton Sr. and the MLK Choir, led by Music Director Andre Darby. Admission is free.
In Deltona, also on Saturday, Jan. 15, The Deltona DreamKeepers and the African American Association of Deltona will hold a luncheon celebration with guest speaker Volusia County Council Member Barb Girtman noon-2 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and must be purchased in advance. On Monday, Jan. 17, DeLand will host two free events: a historical walk from the Museum of Art at 600 N. Woodland Blvd., to a community festival at Earl Brown Park, 750 S. Alabama Ave.
The walk begins at 11 a.m., and the festival, which features live entertainment, food, a small-business expo and more, is from noon to 4 p.m.
