West Volusia Artists Inc. is featuring Elizabeth “Liz” Cothran as the Artist of the Month for January. Her acrylic piece Musica Para Todos means “music for all.”

The instruments depicted in the work are related to Cothran’s other passion (aside from painting), which is making music. She sings and plays in several local bands. One is a trio, another a classic-rock band, and the third is a small group of those who play the ukulele. “Like art, sharing music with others is universal,” Cothran said.

She has dabbled in art for more than 20 years.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking and singing. Using her teacher skills to tutor children and adults is another pastime.

West Volusia Artists Inc.’s publicity attracted Cothran. She joined and has been a member for three years. She appreciates the variety of different challenges and how the members are so supportive of each other. Her work has previously been displayed at DeLand City Hall.

This piece will be exhibited in the lobby of the Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center, 815 S. Alabama Ave. in DeLand, for the month of January. The club meets there 9 a.m.-noon on the first and third Fridays of the month September-May. Bring your art materials, and meet the other members.
