Shoestring Theatre in Lake Helen is presenting “The Shoe Sings Sondheim” as a tribute to the late composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, one night only, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22. The show features 21 musical performances from 11 shows, including Company, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park With George, Follies, Anyone Can Whistle, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and Merrily We Roll Along.
Conceived by Ayo Demps and directed by Anne Sollien, “The Shoe Sings Sondheim” is sure to have the audience tapping their feet to some of the greatest show tunes, a fitting way to honor the contributions Sondheim brought to stages around the globe.
The program stars a number of performers who have appeared in Sondheim musicals at Shoestring and other local theaters — Anne and Bob Sollien, Kate Dalia, Michael Shiles, Joshua Freeman, Andrea O’Reilly, Ayo and Tiffany Demps, Eli Lemoine, Wren Alexander and Justin Scarlat.
With narration by David Finkle and Jenny Sejansky, and the unbelievably talented Ben Beck accompanying, it is sure to be a great night of family entertainment.
