Lake Helen’s only thrift shop, Browse N Buy, is helping the homeless community one shoe at a time.

“We will be hosting an event called ‘For the Love of Feet,’” said owner JC. “It’s a Valentine’s Day picnic where the homeless and needy will be able to pick up a pair of shoes and socks, as well as have some good food.”

‘For the Love of Feet’ will take place 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Earl Brown Park in DeLand. “There will be hot dogs, chips and sodas,” said JC, “and in addition to the socks and shoes, we’ll also have bags, as well as coats and sweaters since it’s getting colder.”

Passionate about helping the community, JC feels as though she’s been blessed and now it’s her turn to give back. “I was homeless once and know how hard it can be,” she said. “I really want to make it special for these folks; we may not know them, but we love them.”

Browse N Buy will be collecting new to gently used socks and shoes up until Feb. 11. “Our goal is 300 pairs of shoes,” said JC, “and we’re offering customers 10% off their purchase if they bring in a pair of socks and shoes.”

Browse N Buy is also currently looking for volunteers to help out during the event. “I’m excited about the camaraderie, helping the homeless and having volunteers to help out at the event,” said JC.

Browse N Buy sells everything from furniture, household items, and collectibles, to clothes, toys, jewelry, and so much more.

Browse N Buy is located at 126 Water St. in Lake Helen. Store hours are 2 p.m.-6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
