The Shell Harbor boat ramp in Pierson will be closed for repairs Wednesday, March 9, to fix up damage the ramp sustained during the removal of a derelict vessel in Lake George last December.

The boat removed was 60 feet in length and homemade, Volusia County Community Information Specialist David Hunt told The Beacon.

“The derelict vessel was estimated to have been in place for 25 years,” he said. “Hazardous waste was found on board, along with diesel tanks containing fuel.”

The Shell Harbor boat ramp will close for repairs March 9, and is expected to reopen the next day. While the boat ramp and roundabout are closed, the rest of Shell Harbor Park will remain open.

Shell Harbor Park is open every day from dawn to dusk, and all of its facilities are free to use.
