The DeLand City Commission and the city’s two Community Redevelopment Agencies will meet Monday, April 4, to discuss plans for the Voorhis Avenue streetscape project and tree preservation near Lake Winnemissett.
First, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the Spring Hill Community Redevelopment Agency will convene. The CRA will discuss an amendment to the agency’s 2021-22 budget and an annual audit for the previous fiscal year.
Next, the Downtown DeLand Community Redevelopment Agency will convene at 6 p.m. to provide an update on preliminary plans for the Voorhis Avenue streetscape project.
In February, residents were underwhelmed by their first look at plans to fix up a portion of West Voorhis Avenue in Downtown DeLand. With that in mind, the city staff will ask the CRA to approve design firm CPH creating new design plans that incorporate resident feedback, including fixing up two blocks of West Voorhis Avenue — from South Woodland Boulevard to Clara Avenue — instead of just one.
If the city opts for 3D renderings of the new plans, the CRA will foot a roughly $20,000 bill.
Lastly, the DeLand City Commission will begin its regular meeting at 7 p.m. The commission will discuss a number of topics, including plans for the developers of the planned Cresswind active adult community to pay into the city’s tree trust fund. Developers are required to replace a percentage of trees removed during construction, but when ample room is not available to replant trees, developers can opt to pay a sum of money to the city’s tree trust fund.
The applicant, under the name KH CW DELAND LLC, has agreed to pay the city an initial sum of $375,000 to make up for trees removed during phase one of Cresswind’s development. That makes up 50 percent of the total $750,000 payment the developer plans to make to the city for tree mitigation for its phase one plans.
The preliminary plat of Cresswind’s first phase won approval from the DeLand City Commission last November.
Other topics on the City Commission agenda include the exchange of a property between private owners and the city to progress with the extension of Beresford Avenue.
All of the City of DeLand meetings will be held in the City Commission Chambers in City Hall, 120 S. Florida Ave. All meetings are open to the public.
Documentation, including complete agenda packets, for the meetings is available on the city’s website, HERE. The Downtown DeLand CRA and City Commission meeting will be broadcast live on the city’s website, and can be accessed when the broadcast goes live by clicking the camcorder button next to the meeting listing on the city meeting page linked above.
