‘When You Wish Upon a Shoe’: Families and friends perform movie and theater family favorites

On Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29, Shoestring Theatre in Lake Helen will create a showcase full of family favorites. This production, titled “When You Wish Upon a Shoe,” offers a cornucopia of theater talent performing all the movie and theater songs you love with their family and friends.

Anne Sollien has gathered a stellar group of performers, and with so many beloved movie and theater songs to choose from, this show promises to become one of the all-time most-popular Shoebox shows ever produced!

Just to whet your appetite, here we name the performers and just a few of the songs you will experience:

Ayo Demps will perform “Beauty and the Beast,” and his wife, Tiffany Demps, will sing “Once Upon a Dream.”

Andrea O’Reilly brings a scene from the animated Disney movie Dumbo to life, performing “Baby Mine” with both her children, Declan and Kenna.

‘BABY MINE’ — In Shoestring Theatre’s Shoebox Production of “When You Wish Upon a Shoe,” Andrea O’Reilly sings “Baby Mine” from Dumbo with Declan and Kenna.

Then we jump on a magic-carpet ride with Anne and Bob Sollien for an Aladdin song.

Brihanna Gaytan and Natalie Grooms will give us a taste of Encanto.

Kelly Fagan will sing “God Help the Outcasts,” and then lead a rollicking “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” which will have everyone singing along.

Performing “Gaston” are theater favorites David Santiago and Steve Gelovich, who will surely bring a smile to your lips.

Other favorite performances and their performers include “Poor Unfortunate Soul” – Kate Dalia; “Out There” – Justin Scarlat; “Be Prepared” – Josh Freeman; “Home” – Kayla Gelovich; and Sophie Mercado and Penny Wolek portraying great friends with “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” Jaidyn Richardson touches the heart with “Proud of Your Boy,” and D’Montrae Harris dances across the stage with “Friends From the Other Side.”

The Shoe is also welcoming back to their stage after too long an absence Alexa and Rob Baldwin, as they bring Frozen to the stage with “Love Is an Open Door”; then daughter Lilly joins them for “Some Things Never Change.”

Tori Rathbun sings “Candle on the Water,” and daughter Elliot makes her stage debut with “Go the Distance.” Christina Coulter, one of Shoestring Theatre’s original Young Artist performers who now entertains across the country, performs a duet with Justin Scarlat, as well as a delightful number from Enchanted called “A Happy Working Song.”

GO THE DISTANCE ‘WHEN YOU WISH UPON A SHOE’ — Tori and Elliott Rathbun get ready for Elliott’s stage debut singing “Go the Distance,” in Shoestring Theatre’s “When You Wish Upon a Shoe.”

Karina Pomales, home from college, will sing “I Won’t Say I’m in Love,” and recent UCF graduate Hayley Sanz brings to life “A Change in Me.”

Saving two of the best for last, Carlyn Langell performs “When You Wish Upon a Star,” and the accompanist for the show will be the amazing Joyce DeLoach!

Please bring all your family and friends to share in a show performed by the very best talent in the area. There will be songs to sing along with, songs that make you laugh, songs that make you cry, songs to reminisce about, and maybe a few you haven’t heard before!

“When You Wish Upon a Shoe” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 28, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29.
