The Book Nest used-book store, located in the Deltona Regional Library and run by Friends of the Deltona Library, has received recent generous donations. These allow the bookstore to offer local teachers the opportunity to come in and pick out a bag of books for free for their classrooms. The teachers can come in, during regular library hours, from Saturday, Aug. 6, through Monday, Aug. 15. Teachers need to bring their Volusia County teacher ID.
The Friends reach out to schools and other nonprofits through the program “Friend 2 Friend,” giving books to local organizations. The giveaway program is in keeping with the green theme of the Deltona Regional Library: “Reuse, Recycle and Reduce Landfills.”
To make a donation of gently used books or to inquire about volunteering, call The Book Nest at 386-624-8767.

High-school athletics
Many of your fall sports will either have begun practice before the start of school or will start on the first day of school.
All hopeful athletes are reminded that they need to have quite a lot of paperwork filled out prior to their first day of practice, and must have a medical physical as well. Contact your school’s Athletic Department for needed paperwork and for the forms for a physical.
