The DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce & Orange City Alliance will hold its biennial Hob Nob event with The West Volusia Beacon as the title sponsor. West Volusia residents will have the opportunity to meet candidates running in local city and county races, as well as for state and national offices.

This popular event is presented in an expo-style setting with the opportunity to mingle with the candidates in a casual conversational atmosphere.

Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis will be conducting a straw poll for attendees to cast their vote. A straw poll is an ad hoc or unofficial vote used to show popular opinion. Local media will be on hand to announce the results, as well as live tweeting by the Chamber.

The event will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, in the Daugharty Building at the Volusia County Agricultural Center, 3100 E. New York Ave., east of DeLand.

Admission is free and open to the public, with a cash bar available.

For more information on the event, visit the DeLand Chamber website at, or the DeLand Chamber Facebook page.
