On Friday, Aug. 12, find your peace sign in the bottom drawer, slip on your headband, and don your tie-dyed shirt. You’ll be properly outfitted for “Peace of Woodstock,” a music and visual homage to the most storied rock ’n’ roll weekend ever — Woodstock — where more than 400,000 fans turned out at an upstate New York dairy farm to revel in the music of headliners such as Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin and Sly and the Family Stone.
“Peace of Woodstock,” an exciting 90-minute music-and-visuals show, begins at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12, at the Athens Theatre in Downtown DeLand. Tune up your “Mercedes Benz,” bring “Somebody to Love,” and prepare to get by “With a Little Help From [Your] Friends” as you “Dance to the Music.” Don’t miss this tribute to the most famous concert of all time.
Tickets to this show cost $35 for preferred reserved seating (first six rows orchestra, and two rows center balcony); and $30 for general reserved seating. A $4-per-ticket processing charge and 6.5-percent sales tax will be added to each purchase.
On Saturday, Aug. 13, returning to the Athens by popular demand is “Diamond: [the ultimate] Tribute to Neil Diamond.” The tribute band’s leader, Jack Berrios, captures all the electricity of Neil Diamond’s hits, including “I’m a Believer,” “Song Sung Blue,” “Sweet Caroline,” “Dancing in the Street” and many, many others.
Berrios is backed up by vocals from Janet Lamb and Kitei, with Bradley Garrison on congas, and Talon Berrios on vocals and percussion. Together, they provide never-ending energy and excitement onstage.
The group has appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Daily Buzz with Andy Campbell, and FUZE TV.
This tribute to Neil Diamond will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13, at the Athens Theatre.
The Athens Theatre is at 124 N. Florida Ave. in Downtown DeLand.
The same ticket pricing that applies to “Peace of Woodstock” (described above) also applies to “Diamond: A Tribute to Neil Diamond.”
All tickets are available online at the Athens Theatre website (www.AthensDeLand.com), or by calling the box office at 386-736-1500. Box-office hours are 1-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and 1 1/2 hours before live performances.
