Editor, The Beacon:

Thank you to the DeLand Area Chamber for hosting a Hob Nob Aug. 9!

This was a great opportunity to meet and ask questions of candidates who are going to be on the ballots of local voters.

I was happy to see the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections team was there to ensure the straw-poll ballots were done correctly. Which I was happy to see included all the candidates.

I believe it is a disservice when not all candidates are available to vote for in these types of straw polls, which I’ve seen at another organization’s recent event.

Can’t wait for the primary election Aug. 23, when all Volusia voters may participate!

  1. Third party candidates are so often left out of the press and events because there is a misguided belief that third party candidates cannot win. Nothing could be further from the truth.

It is super-exciting to see a Libertarian candidate going against an R where there is not even a D candidate in the race (how, Ds did you let that happen in a mid-cycle election with a D in the White House, D Control of the Senate and slim majority in the House?)!
