On Friday, Aug. 26, the historic Athens Theatre in DeLand welcomes you to complete relief from the pressures of the stress-filled week. Sink into a cozy, well-upholstered seat, exhale all your cares, and enjoy an evening of John Denver’s inimitable music as amazingly reproduced by Carl Bennett’s melodious acoustic guitar and mellifluous voice.
Hum along to “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Rocky Mountain High,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” and countless others written by this amazingly productive inductee into the Country Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In contrast, on the following night, Saturday, Aug. 27, get really cranked up as the accomplished musicians of Chicago Rewired precisely replicate the soundtrack of memories that make up the timeless music of Chicago.
Doug Norton, Simon Brooker and Allen Beck’s soaring horn section, lead singer Kerry Craig, keyboardist David Miller, lead guitar Robert Bussey, bass player Freddie Banner, woodwind specialist Doug Norton and drummer Mike Graci combine to overwhelm the audience with favorites like “Call on Me,” “You’re the Inspiration,” “Will You Still Love Me?” and “Colour My World.” This will be a truly thrilling concert.
Each of the concerts starts at 7:30 p.m. The Athens Theatre is at 124 N. Florida Ave. in Downtown DeLand.
Tickets for each concert cost $35 for preferred reserved seating (first six rows orchestra, and two rows center balcony), and $30 for general reserved seating. A $4-per-ticket processing charge and 6.5-percent sales tax will be added to each purchase.
All tickets are available online at the Athens Theatre website (www.AthensDeLand.com), or by calling the box office at 386-736-1500. Box-office hours are 1-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and 1 1/2 hours before live performances.
