Betty Stallings-Huber is September Artist of the Month

The West Volusia Artists club is featuring Betty Stallings-Huber as Artist of the Month for September. Her acrylic landscape is titled The Manatee’s Resort. Stallings-Huber’s work will be on display at the Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center in DeLand during the month of September.

Being a native Floridian who prefers nature at its best, Stallings-Huber enjoys following manatees to places like Blue Spring. Their migration enables them to enjoy warm water when winter arrives in Florida.

Stallings-Huber was born in Vero Beach, and moved to Deltona with her husband in 1987. Art has been of interest to her since she was a child. Her high-school art teacher inspired her.

After retirement, Stallings-Huber took online classes with Louise Fletcher, and found YouTube videos to be a great resource for sharpening her art skills.

She loves encouraging her five grandchildren to love art in different forms.

Stallings-Huber was a member of the Deltona Art Club, and her work has been on display at the Deltona Regional Library and at Deltona City Hall.

She met Melinda Cummings, a member of West Volusia Artists, and Stallings-Huber embraced the friendly group.

Here are her thoughts on art: “Just do it. Don’t worry that your work doesn’t look like anyone else’s. Enjoy the journey of art.”

When not doing art, Stallings-Huber enjoys Bible study, which taught her that art begins with seeing beauty, and that comes from God. She feels her late husband is still cheering her on.

The West Volusia Artists meet on the first and third Fridays of the month from September through May at the Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center, 815 S. Alabama Ave. in DeLand. You’re encouraged to bring your art materials and join the group.
