The DeLand City Commission will hold a workshop to discuss the city’s future and a special meeting about the city’s worn-down Old Jail on Monday, Sept. 26.

The workshop, at 5:30 p.m., will be to discuss the city’s 2050 Vision Plan. The 2050 Vision Plan was first adopted in 2011, and a comprehensive re-examination of the plan began in 2019, but was interrupted by COVID-19.

The theme of the workshop, per the city, is “Beyond Today,” and the City Commission will discuss the city’s land-use guidelines, traffic guidelines and more in terms of charting a course for the city’s future.

The second meeting, to discuss the latest plans for GlassHouse Square, will begin at 7 p.m. GlassHouse Square will, if approved by the City Commission, replace the historic and dilapidated Old Jail at 130 W. New York Ave.

Developer GlassHouse LLC has revised some elements of the project’s plan since the Planning Board saw the project in July, and the city’s planning staff recommends the City Commission approve the project on first reading pending a few additional fixes.

The developer will have to provide a plan for where GlassHouse Square’s 50 spaces of off-site parking will be located, and amend the development plan’s temporary parking area to be more in line with city standards.

This workshop and the special will take place in the City Commission Chambers at DeLand City Hall, 120 S. Florida Ave.

Both will be broadcast online on the city’s website, HERE.
