DeLand police were called to the West Georgia Avenue/ Artisan Alley area of DeLand the night of Aug. 18 regarding an SUV hitting a parked, unoccupied vehicle and a stop sign.

The SUV also hit a brick building, leaving pieces of red bricks lying on the ground, as well as the vehicle’s front grill and one of its front headlights.

The driver left the scene and headed west on New York Avenue, driving in the wrong lane.

A short time later, police stopped the SUV on North Spring Garden Avenue. The driver was a 49-year-old woman who lives in DeLeon Springs.

When DeLand police tried to get her to perform field sobriety exercises, Brick Building Breaker could barely remain standing and, at one point, fell into the arms of an officer. (No, this isn’t how great love stories start.)

At the DeLand Police Station, Brick Bui lding Breaker blew 0.252 and 0.249 breath tests. And think about it: In that condition, she’d been driving on Georgia Avenue, New York, Spring Garden and who knows where else. Be grateful she didn’t bump into you that night.
