With money to burn and what may seem like a rush of the season, Orange City’s leaders have already begun planning for the Independence Day celebration.

The City Council has approved a contract with a South Florida fireworks vendor for the traditional light-up-the-skies display at Orange City’s Valentine Park, set for July 1, 2023. The city will pay $19,500 to Zambelli Fireworks Manufacturing Co., of Boca Raton, for the nighttime event that climaxes the celebration of the holiday. That sum is $1,000 more than the most recent fireworks display, staged July 2, 2022.

Under the contract between Orange City and Zambelli, the city has paid a deposit equal to 50 percent of the price, and the city will pay the balance of the bill before the holiday.

Orange City has contracted with Zambelli for Independence Day fireworks since 2011.

The city canceled its July Fourth celebration in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
