Magnificently macabre, terrifyingly tantalizing and wonderfully whimsical all at once, Central Florida native Phantasmagoria will envelop the Athens Theatre in Downtown DeLand with its mystical cloak — a spectacular shroud woven of phantasmal dance, spine-chilling storytelling, and paranormal puppetry.
At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29, this acclaimed Victorian horror troupe will bring the tales and poetry of beloved writer Edgar Allan Poe to life through their brilliantly expressive narrative.

‘I BEG OF YOU TO TAKE HEED AND HEAR MY WARNING!’

Creeping onto the stage with their haunting, entrancing music and otherworldly projections, Phantasmagoria is a veritable banquet for the senses. Watch in amazement at the stirring lament of Annabel Lee, and the eerie tap, tap, tapping of The Raven, as these and many other treasured Poe tales are vividly brought to life!
Welcoming this spectacular team of creatives since 2017, the Athens Theatre is delighted to celebrate alongside this much-admired ensemble as they mark their 13th year of productions!
Director John DiDonna luminously spins these tales of mystery, while costumes by Shelly Henriott theatrically meld together Victorian beauty with bewitching steampunk. The ghostly, melodic score by John Solomon, coupled with dazzling projections by Dana Mott, are sure to cast an awe-inducing spell.

‘BEHOLD, THE FIRE WITHIN!’

With performances just before Halloween, audience members are encouraged to come in costume and don their Halloween best! Kick off your festivities and usher in All Hallows’ Eve with this multisensory, deliciously dark production.
Phantasmagoria can be viewed by any age, but is most appropriate for age 8 and up due to elements of horror. Parents and guardians are advised to be aware of their own children’s ability to watch “scary things.”
Tickets cost $31 for preferred reserved seating (first five rows center orchestra, and two rows center balcony) and $26 for general reserved seating. A $4-per-ticket processing charge and 6.5-percent sales tax will be added to each purchase.
All tickets are available online at the Athens Theatre website (www.AthensDeLand.com), or by calling the box office at 386-736-1500. Box-office hours are 1-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and 1 1/2 hours before live performances.
The Athens Theatre is at 124 N. Florida Ave. in Downtown DeLand.
