MAP COURTESY VOLUSIA COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE NEW DISTRICTS — Incumbent Danny Robins and Ted Noftall, profiled here, are vying to represent District 3 (in blue) on the Volusia County Council. Six of the seven County Council seats are up for election this year. On Tuesday, Nov. 8, voters will decide between incumbent Barb Girtman and challenger Don Dempsey in District 1 (pink), between Victor Ramos and David Santiago in District 5 (green), between Danny Fuqua and Matthew Reinhart in District 2 (melon), and between Troy Kent and Ken Smith in District 4. Also, all Volusia County voters may cast ballots in the race between Doug Pettit and Jake Johansson for the at-large seat.

Editor, The Beacon:

This is a heartfelt plea to the residents of Volusia County.

My wife and I of 49 years are residents of Volusia County and Ormond Beach.

Over the past three years, we have witnessed the rapid deterioration of our quality of life, our environment and infrastructure. We are very saddened by what has happened to our county.

It is time for all of us to take back our county from the politicians who are heavily funded by developers, real estate investors and government contractors who put their selfish, self-serving needs well before the needs of our citizenry.

This why we are supporting the following candidates for Volusia County Council: Doug Pettit for Volusia County Council at-large (all of Volusia); Ted Noftall for Volusia County District 3 (Southeast Volusia and to DeLand); and Ken Smith for Volusia County District 4 (Northeast Volusia and to DeLand).

These are the candidates who will be working for us and who are the least influenced by the developers, real estate investors and government contractors.

These are the citizens and patriots who put citizen needs first. They are our grassroots candidates who will be most concerned with our quality of life, the environment, the infrastructure and the amount of taxes we are forced to pay. They are concerned with the legacy for our children.

Please, fellow residents and citizens, step up for your and all of our sakes!

Thank you!

Steve and Michelle Handwerker
