WINI KNOWLTON AND HER PAINTING "EARLY BIRD"

The West Volusia Artists are featuring Wini Knowlton as Artist of the Month for November. Her piece titled Early Bird was done in oil paint; she was inspired by a friend’s picture at the beach.

Knowlton’s work will be on display at the Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center during the month of November.

Born in Chicopee, Massachusetts, Knowlton and her husband moved from Tallahassee to DeLand in 2004.

Wini has enjoyed art since childhood, and her husband encouraged her to try again with coloring books. From there, she pursued art classes at The DeLand Studio, YouTube University, and The Art of Surprise at the Museum of Art – DeLand. She would encourage beginners to “pick up your crayons like a little kid and just have fun.”

After her husband saw the West Volusia Artists’ articles in The Beacon, he encouraged Knowlton to go to one of their meetings. They both joined, and she is vice president this year.

The club meets 9 a.m.-noon the first and third Friday of the month from September through May. Attendees bring their own art materials. Members take field trips to museums, do plein-air outings, and have demonstrations of art techniques. All levels of talent are welcome.

The Sanborn Center is at 815 S. Alabama Ave. in Earl Brown Park in DeLand.
