Living a healthier and more organic way of life isn’t just about the food you put into your body. When you visit The Mix Salon Spa in Downtown DeLand, organic is about the products you use on your hair.
“Not only are our products better for your hair, but they’re also better for the environment,” said co-owner JeanMarie Funicello-Pereira.
A DeLand staple for more than 30 years, The Mix Salon Spa was recently purchased by business partners JeanMarie Funicello-Pereira and Magdalena Pracik. “My partner and I had been stylists at the salon for years,” said JeanMarie. “When the previous owners decided to retire, we saw this as a great opportunity not only for ourselves but for the salon as well.”
Looking to give the salon a fresh start, JeanMarie and Magdalena are planning on renovating as well as offering some additional new services. “We want to keep the salon’s environment and culture the same, just update it a bit,” said JeanMarie.
A proud Aveda concept salon, The Mix Salon Spa has carried organic Earth-friendly products since the very beginning, and plans to continue. “Aveda is a very environmentally conscious company,” said JeanMarie. “Their products are up to 99% naturally derived and is the only beauty company to be recognized by the United Nations for their work with indigenous communities and fair trade practices.”
Offering everything from cuts, color and highlights, to balayage, keratin treatments, and men’s haircuts, The Mix has also started offering tape-in and hand-tied hair extensions. “They’re essentially damage-free hair extensions,” said JeanMarie.
The Mix’s additional services include makeup application, eyebrow and lash tint, waxing, and day-of bridal services, and they will soon be offering spa services as well. “Our stylists do pretty amazing work,” said JeanMarie. “We have a lot of talent here.”
The Mix sells all of the Aveda products that they use as well as their makeup and skin care products.
The Mix Salon Spa is located at 214 E. New York Ave. in DeLand. Their hours are 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
