Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Daytona Beach is hosting its Italian Festival Thursday, Feb. 2, through Saturday, Feb. 4.
There will be authentic Italian food, with complete dinners, pizza, desserts, pastry and beverages. Family-friendly activities will include bounce houses, games, an obstacle course and other activities.
Kids eat free on Friday with an adult-paid dinner.
A “Meatball Boss” Contest will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Music and entertainment acts include Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Ann-Margret tributes Thursday, music by the bands Agape and Back Row on Friday, and line dancing by Lisa and The Love Band on Saturday.
The Italian Festival’s hours of operation are 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, and Friday, Feb. 3, and noon-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.

1st Christian Church to celebrate 140 years in DeLand
The Rev. Carlos Perez, senior pastor at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of DeLand, is preparing the congregation for a celebration of the church’s 140 years in DeLand, and its future direction.
On Sunday, Jan. 29, the worship service is at 10:45 a.m., with Kathy Porr opening the service by giving the welcome and making announcements.
Prayers are offered; special music will be directed by Barbara Polomsky and with spiritual vocalist Donna Mozley; Scripture related to the sermon will be read by an elder; and Pastor Perez’s sermon ends with the highlight of all Disciple services, Communion, administered by elders Nancy Jones and Brenda Velazquez- Morales.
Every Sunday at 8:15 a.m., Dr. Janet Raney leads an informal worship service in the kitchen foyer.
Throughout the week of Jan. 29, the Disciple Women will be receiving and organizing donations for the annual Trash and Treasures Sale, which will be 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4. Proceeds from the sale provide children with camp scholarships and fund other outreach ministries.
Bingo will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the fellowship hall, with Essie Miller as the caller.
The Rev. Ben Collins to speak on ‘Growing a Neighborhood Within’
Mosaic Unitarian Universalist Congregation is meeting online at 11 a.m. every Sunday. The title of the Jan. 29 service is “Growing a Neighborhood Within.” The Rev. Ben Collins will share a compelling vision of a needed shift in human consciousness.
The eternal question “Who is the neighbor?” will serve as a launching point for a vision of this new consciousness, a new wise and contemplative way, and the neighborhood that emerges from within as we learn to listen.
Worship leader Judy Raymond will guide everyone through the service. All are welcome.

Music Makers to perform
The Music Makers’ spring rehearsal will be starting soon! Trinity United Methodist Church in DeLand will be offering an opportunity for second- through fifth-graders to sing. This is an after-school program that begins Monday, Feb. 13. At 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 21, the Music Makers will perform the musical Who, What, When, Where, Why – Discovering a Relationship With Jesus.
Rehearsals are 2:45-4:30 p.m. on Mondays. Music Makers is a fun and exciting program that offers music, drama, crafts and snacks.

‘A Dose of Christ’
What constitutes a miracle? Albert Einstein suggested this thought: “There are two ways to live: You can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.” Most of us could use a miracle or two to help get us through the many challenges we face from day to day.
First United Methodist Church of DeLand is in the midst of the sermon series “Uncharted,” which deals with what is needed to get us through the unexpected and unknown things we face, as we move ahead in the year that is before us.
This week, Sunday, Jan. 29, the topic will be “A Dose of Christ,” which explores the resources available while moving ahead in faith with peace and joy. The sermon will look at the Apostle Peter’s experience when he walked on water, to give insight into just how much the miraculous love of Christ is needed to accomplish things that might not be able to be completed.
Willa Cather wrote, “Where there is great love there are always miracles.” For those in need of “A Dose of Christ” and His miraculous love to face the challenges ahead, you’re invited to come to services this week to be encouraged and inspired. There is in-person traditional worship at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary, and a 9:30 a.m. contemporary service in the Life Enrichment Center.

A friend from Taiwan
On Sunday, Jan. 29, First Presbyterian Church of DeLand will depart from its regularly scheduled services to gather members for a combined service at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. The church welcomes visitors to share this service, as well as the open Lord’s Supper, along with a blend of classical and contemporary music.
People can livestream or view a recording of the single service on YouTube and/or www.fpcdeland.org.
After the single service, the church will enjoy a potluck lunch, for which all are invited to bring a dish to share.
On this fifth Sunday, there will not be adult Sunday-school classes or Children’s Church, although parents can call the office to place a nursery reservation for children age 3 and younger.
First Presbyterian’s Pastor Michael Bodger and the congregation welcome the Rev. John McCall, a longtime friend and associate of First Pres who, for more than 20 years, has been serving in Taiwan. Spending much time on trains, buses and subways, he travels throughout that country teaching courses on ministry and spiritual formation at the seminaries of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan.
While this Sunday abbreviates some activities, some meetings, studies and classes will continue throughout the next week.
First Pres volunteers will prepare and serve food for the homeless at The Bridge 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.
There will be a free bingo night 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in the fellowship hall, with snacks and prizes.
The church is resuming its Cuba mission trip on March 21. This group carries tools to the people of Taguasco First Presbyterian Church, including medical supplies and nonprescription needs, including pain relievers, vitamins, omega-3 and calcium. Donations are needed, and they are being collected in baskets in the church’s welcome areas and office.
1st Unitarian Universalist activities
On Sunday, Jan. 29, the congregation of First Unitarian Universalist Church of West Volusia in DeLand welcomes Cheryl Orr, who will present her personal journey of spiritual exploration.
In the search for the meaning of spirituality, Orr will explore the difference between intellect and spirit, and will present the ways to find that personal spiritual self in one’s own senses and presence. If time allows, discussion may be included.
Attendees happily gather after the service for a social hour to share coffee, tea and conversation.
Those attending in person are encouraged to arrive at 10:15 a.m. for greetings before the 10:30 a.m. service begins. Masks are discretionary, but encouraged at this time.
