The hallmark of DeLand’s Shamrocks & Shenanigans event March 16 at Earl Brown Park was the corned beef cook-off. Attendees paid $5 for a voting wristband and a single plastic shamrock. After tasting each of the seven corned beef entrants, visitors cast their shamrock as their vote for the winner. At the end of the event, the winner took home the money collected by Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center staffers Lysette Santiago and Leslie Kirkpatrick, which was a whopping $865 by the end of the night.

Ed Prokop and Leah
Miles take home the corned beef cook-off win. They had some stiff competition, but the team’s corned beef and cabbage meatballs
with Guinness gravy over sauerkraut with “a drop of zesty Leprechaun sauce” won the competition’s cash prize of $865. “My father-in-law and I joked and said, if we don’t win, we’ll come back next year and try again, and if we win, we’ll come back to defend our title!” Miles told The Beacon. “We’ll be back for sure. It’s one of our favorite events in
DeLand.”
The 4 events with pictures and informative articles are very interesting and a pleasant news feature that shows the history and traditions of the local residents.I look forward to next year’s celebrations. Thanks for good news.
