Here is an example of the beautifully decorated crosses that will adorn the streets this Easter weekend. This picture was taken Easter 2021.

A DeLand tradition will continue this year when decorated crosses line the streets of Downtown DeLand for Easter weekend.

Like last year, the program will be organized by Realtors Jalene Ferreira and Bonnie Hoffmann from Charles Rutenberg Realty with help from Floral Boutique + Stetson Florist & Flower Delivery owner Jennifer Strickland.

“I love it every year, I look forward to it,” Ferreira told The Beacon. “It’s special to DeLand.”

In total, 70 crosses will decorate Downtown DeLand.

Like past years, business owners, churches and individuals sponsored wooden and lattice crosses that will stand along the road and hang on storefronts. The crosses will go up tonight, April 6, in time for Good Friday, and the sponsors and other members of the community will gather at Pioneer Park in Downtown DeLand Saturday, April 8, to decorate their crosses..

Strickland, Hoffmann and Ferreira are pairing this year with the Christian organization Young Life. Proceeds from the cross-decorating will be donated to Young Life, The Bridge homeless shelter and the Childhood Cancer Foundation.
