Editor, The Beacon:
I just heard on the news that the Volusia County commissioners want to have a say in what books go on the shelves of our public libraries.
What next? Isn’t there more important community county business for them to be concerned about? I certainly feel there is.

Editor’s note: At its May 2 meeting, the Volusia County Council backpedaled on its earlier conversation about having more oversight of books available in the county’s public libraries and, with David Santiago absent, voted 6-0 to drop plans to look into the process the library system uses to review books placed in the children’s sections of the libraries.
