DeLand resident and auto dealership owner Randy Dye announced his campaign for Volusia County Chair in a press release email blast May 4. He is also a community philanthropist and former race car driver. Dye currently serves on multiple boards, including Daytona State College’s Board of Trustees to which he was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

“Everything in my background and my experiences has prepared me to provide the leadership necessary to guide us into a brighter future,” Dye said a campaign announcement.

Dye joins current Port Orange Mayor Don Burnette in challenging incumbent Jeff Brower. All three are registered Republicans.

Other early candidates include two current Orange City Council members — Kelli Marks and current Vice Mayor William O’Connor — for Orange City mayor. There are also two newcomers vying for Volusia County School Board seats, Merrick Brunker for District 4 and Angela Kopnicky for District 2.
