Goodwin St. in Lake Helen. The Sound is an 18-piece orchestra that plays big-band music, and the group will be performing a patriotic tribute honoring those who fought bravely for our country. Several events will be held on Memorial Day itself, Monday, May 29. DeLand will have its 102nd annual Memorial Day observance at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Park and Gardens at Bill Dreggors Park, 230 N. Stone St. The featured speaker will be former DeLand Mayor Robert Apgar. American Legion Adam Quinn Post 6 is coordinating the event, which will feature a visit from the DeLand Fire Department’s Honor Guard.

At Bill Dreggors Park, you can visit the Wall of Honor, which lists all the local heroes who have given their lives for us over the years; the Veterans Memorial Wall, featuring the names of dozens of local veterans in a black granite format; and patriotic military collections in the DeLand Memorial Hospital and Veterans Museum right after the ceremony. DeLand Mayor Chris Cloudman will participate and offer a few words of gratitude for our veterans. Members of American Legion Post 187 will be on hand.
