Tomorrow is sure to be a sunny day, as the Athens Theatre Youth Academy presents their enchanting and heartwarming summer camp production of Annie Kids. This beloved show will captivate audiences of all ages with its charming story and delightful songs. Experience the magic at the historic Athens Theatre in DeLand at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22, and Friday, June 23.
As part of the Youth Academy’s summer camp offerings, Annie Kids not only stars children from the camp, but it is also produced by them. In only two short weeks, costume design, painting of scenery, tech, all of it — is done by these ambitious youngsters! The sensational camp is spearheaded by the academy’s director, Angelyn Rhode, along with her trusty (and incredibly crafty) crew of assistant teachers and junior counselors.
Follow the inspiring journey of a young orphan named Annie, who longs to be part of a family, believing they must be out there somewhere. The audience will be treated to a collection of delightful songs, including the Broadway smash hit “Tomorrow.” Through the triumph over the villainous Miss Hannigan and the discovery of a loving family for Annie and her fellow orphans, this production delivers a music-laden message of longing, joy and generosity.
Based on the timeless classic Little Orphan Annie, it features a book written by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin.
