CELEBRATING FREEDOM — Young dancers celebrate Juneteenth at Earl Brown Park during the Juneteenth: Unity in the Community 2022 celebration in DeLand. The holiday marks the day in 1865 that slaves in Texas were officially told of their freedom, nearly two-and-a-half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

DeLand — Join the community at Earl Brown Park, at 750 S. Alabama Ave., 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday, June 17, for food trucks, other vendors, live music, and other performances and information.

Daytona Beach — The 25th annual Hometown Heroes banquet is being held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 19, at the Mori Hosseini Student Union Building at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 610 Aerospace Boulevard in Daytona Beach. Here, folks will have the opportunity to honor local community leaders who have made a positive impact in the Daytona Beach area.

Sanford — A street celebration is planned noon-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, at 503 Sanford Ave. Shantell’s Just Until is hosting this community-centered event complete with live music and performances, food and beverages, artisan vendors and community discussions to shed light on the significance of Juneteenth and the rich beauty of African culture at large.
