Building homes for new settlers and for established residents who are trading up or trading down continues at a brisk pace around Florida, and DeBary is no exception.
A new housing development is shaping up on vacant land along one of the city’s main roads.
“It’s really the last phase of Glen Abbey,” DeBary City Manager Carmen Rosamonda said, referring to the Highbanks Townhomes. “They’re going through the development review.”
The Highbanks Townhomes is a 126-unit project planned for construction on 17.7 acres on the north side of East Highbanks Road. There will be 23 townhouse buildings, according to information now on file. The developer is Tailwinds Development LLC, of Lake Mary.
The Highbanks Townhomes proposal calls for a 1.76-acre stormwater pond.
Before any development occurs, environmental fact-finding must be completed.
“Data provided by Volusia County indicate this site is within the Gopher Tortoise Overlay and is a Scrubjay natural community,” a report given to the city’s Development Review Committee notes.
Rosamonda could not say when the Highbanks Townhomes plan will be submitted to the City Council for discussion and action.
