GREAT HANDIWORK — A World Changers crew pose in front of a completed homes.

World Changers, a student mission group, brought 146 students from churches across the Southeast United States to DeLand the week of June 19-23.

The students, who ranged in age from 11 to 18, spent their nights on inflatable mattresses at Stetson Baptist Church, the sponsor of the event. By day, crews of students, team leaders and chaperones descended on 15 houses in DeLand to perform some much-needed exterior restoration, painting, and even some landscaping. Volunteers from churches helped feed, transport, and look out for the young people.

A NEW COAT OF PAINT — Sandra Telemaque poses in front of her home on Sherwood Drive in DeLand. Crews from World Changers, a national mission-trip organization, were in the process of painting her home purple June 22. “I’m very, very, grateful,” Telemaque told The Beacon.

Spring Hill Resource Center Director Shilretha Dixon assembled the list of homes for the effort, the first time World Changers has come to DeLand. The summer program places the students in many different cities throughout the entirety of the summer.
