Editor, The Beacon:

Sheldon Skolfield was somewhat accurate in his observations in his letter to The Beacon in the recent July 6-12 edition.

It is true that the Republican Party is overrepresented in our state government with respect to the number of registered Republican voters in the state.

And therein lies the answer to his query: voters.

Our system of government works by elections, which are won by a majority of the voters.

You have to vote in order to be represented and have your voice heard. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s the best one our republic has come up with so far.

By not voting, you allow those who do show up to vote to run the government and enact their agenda. And you also effectively give up your right to complain about it.
