“Ethics is the art of recommending to others the sacrifices required for cooperation with oneself.” — Bertrand Russell
When we untie our moral and ethical demands from the common needs of society, perhaps we can agree on standards of living that we can all respect. The assumption here is that we will voluntarily choose moral and ethical paths toward cooperative coexistence.
It should not be necessary to legislate goodness.
I recognize that frank idealism is not necessarily practical, but I was heavily influenced by that hippie culture of Love.
“To give a love, you gotta live a love. To live a love, you gotta be part of.” — Neil Young ’71

It can’t get any simpler than that.
