At the annual Shoestring Theatre Season Kick-off and Awards Show Saturday, Aug. 5, patrons will be treated to a team of actors led by director Bob Sollien, as they present a scene from each of the season’s productions in reader-theater style and perform musical numbers from the Young Artists Showcase and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

The evening also serves to celebrate and thank the casts and volunteers from last season.

For only $5 general admission tickets, you can have an exclusive tour to view the exciting improvements made to the theater building by volunteers and donations in the past year. Enjoy some refreshments and conversations starting at 6:30 p.m.; then the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

This preview of the season guarantees to entice you to buy season tickets for only $80, so you don’t miss a single show.

The following weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 12 and 13, Shoestring proudly presents the 13th annual Young Artists Showcase. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, young performers will take to the stage to present an extravaganza of musical theater old and new.

Newcomers Emmalise Nejjari, Natalia Meretz and Kate Budzinski will be joined by veteran performers Everlee Grooms, Simone Stephenson, Jaidyn Richardson, Maya Swain, Brandon Jackson, Kayla Gelovich, Noelle Blasingame and Sophia Mercado.

This talented group auditioned earlier this summer and have been working one-on-one with our veteran instructors, Tiffany and Ayo Demps, Kirsten Kiwior-Taylor, Tori Rathbun, Kate Dalia, Andrea O’Reilly and Anne Sollien, to polish their skills and add more tools to their stagecraft toolkit.

This production has a song list to please everyone, with selections from Enchanted, Songs From a New World, The Last Five Years, Hairspray and Carousel, just to name a few!

Tickets are available at shoestringtheatre.net and cost $15 for adults and $10 for students (student tickets must be purchased through the box office by calling 386-228-3777).

Shoestring Theatre is at 380 S. Goodwin St. in Lake Helen.
