Update, August 10: Second body found in DeLand

The DeLand Police Department is investigating a death that occurred in Downtown DeLand.

The body of a man, believed to be a homeless individual, was discovered at about 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, Aug. 8, near the historic Dreka Theater at 112 E. New York Ave., a city spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said the Police Department is not currently regarding the death as suspicious, but the investigation is continuing.

The deceased man is not being identified, pending notification of his next of kin.

Barb and her husband, Jeff, were both born in Kokomo, Indiana, a factory town surrounded by cornfields about 50 miles north of Indianapolis. Since late 2004, Barb has also managed Conrad Realty Co.’s historic property in Downtown DeLand, where The Beacon is an anchor tenant.
