Editor, The Beacon:

I was angry and upset when Ron DeSantis made a campaign speech in New Hampshire in which in reference to federal bureaucrats he said, “[W]e are going to start slitting throats on day one.” He literally says he will start killing federal employees on day one, simply because they have chosen to serve this great nation.

There are nearly 2 million federal employees serving this nation. They care for our veterans, they support our armed forces, they man our borders and fight our wildfires. Nearly 90,000 (nearly 5 percent) live and work in Florida.

I served in Human Resources for the Department of Defense, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and the Forest Service. In all these agencies, I worked with dedicated and committed civil servants whose service was to the mission of their agencies.

My son and daughter-in-law work for the Department of Defense performing logistics functions at Scott Air Force Base. They are both Republicans. DeSantis’ words literally would make my grandson and other children of feds orphans. He owes them and the American public an apology to all for these most unfortunate words.
