UPDATE, 10:30 a.m., Aug. 30
Idalia made landfall around 8 a.m. this morning in North Florida as a powerful category 3 hurricane. Winds as fast as 130 miles per hour, heavy rain and life-threatening storm surge threaten the Big Bend area.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Volusia and neighboring counties. In West Volusia, people can expect wind and rain all day thanks to Idalia’s outer bands.
Volusia County has shut down its three emergency shelters due to the low number of people seeking shelter. Votran bus services will resume service, but riders may experience some delays due to inclement weather.
