In what may be the stuff of an action/suspense movie, Florida U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, R-Port Orange, has been at work getting American visitors out of Israel since the outbreak of the latest war in the Middle East.

A U.S. Army combat veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne Division, Mills left his office on Capitol Hill in Washington to help evacuate Americans to safety. Thus far, according to Mills’ office, the congressman has brought 96 U.S. citizens out of the war zone. As of Oct. 16, 27 Americans are estimated to have been killed in the latest round of war, while other Americans are believed to be captives of Hamas.

Mills was elected last fall to represent Florida’s newly drawn 7th U.S. House District.
