BY DR. CHRISTOPHER JORDAN
I had a friend once who sold used cars. I asked him how he decided which prices he would assign to his inventory. He answered without hesitation, “Whatever the market would bear.” He was a true salesman. Our society is riddled with salespersons.
When I am in conversation with almost anyone these days, and the topic turns to almost anything these days, the following question will invariably present itself, “How did things get to be the way they are?” Pick a topic; economics, social inequity, politics, religious fanatics, war and its sad and truly neglected antithesis, peace. Any and all of these and anything else you can think of that involves people engaging with one another, seems oddly reflective of folks being at odds with one another. Who do we turn to for guidance? Salespeople. People who tell you how to think, what to think. They never encourage you to think for yourself. We see the opposite of supporting individual intellectual development, but rather collective delusional mind control. Exhibit A…Z; book banning, historical curriculum manipulation, divisive social categorization, political polarization…
“How did things get to be the way they are?” We have become rather than the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, the Nation of Imbeciles. Yeah, you heard me. I have struggled to offer positive, encouraging, uplifting Opinions to this paper, but my threshold has been reached. If you truly reach into your heart and reconcile with your intellect and believe the things that dominate the press and social media outlets, we are not going to see a future finding its way to a smooth recovery from the absolute ridiculousness of our current state.
Be the change you wish to see? I saw way too many gun magazines on the shelf at Publix recently, while looking for a copy of Rolling Stone. Jan. 6 brought out the insurgents that were willing to go to D.C. There were many back home waiting for the sign. The change they want to see will start bloody, but will end with a nation in crises. You want to avoid that? Put people in office who care about everyone, who can compromise without diminishing the strengths of our nation. You know, the cross was the unique form of punishment that the Romans used for enemies of the state. It’s laughable that those who profess to be followers of the One felled by the cross, when considering their behavior, are also enemies of the state. One Nation, Indivisible.
