Editor, The Beacon:
Ray Johnson’s opinion, “The absence of reason – Part 2,” is troubling. I agree with much of it, since there is actually an absence of reason in the world today. However, I do not understand the connection between the Republican Party’s moral failure and the seven wars mentioned. I do not need or want an answer to this minor dilemma.
The issue for me is his comments about the Catholic Church. He said, “The moral failure has been amplified by the Christian entities (such as the Catholic Church) who are self-serving with centurieslong series of disillusioning shocks, such as the wickedness of priests, and the logic of untested beliefs.”
If his idea of a disillusioning shock is the recent scandal in the church, he implies that all priests are wicked. Not fair.
The wickedness of men who can’t control themselves exists in every facet of society, not just the church, and certainly not all priests. If not this, perhaps he could define a disillusioning shock.
As far as untested beliefs, they are simply my beliefs, and I came to them after many years of study and prayer. They do not need to be either logical or tested. Maybe Mr. Johnson could think through to the consequences before criticizing “entities” without a basis while preparing Part 3.
