Local nonprofit recognized for volunteerism, diversity

DeLand-based nonprofit organization The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia was recently recognized at the Central Florida Association of Fundraising Professionals awards ceremony as part of the group’s National Philanthropy Day festivities in Orlando.

DeLandite Gery Walker was honored with the Excellence in Volunteerism award for her long history of supporting organizations like The Neighborhood Center and the Rotary Club of DeLand.

In addition to Walker’s recognition, The Neighborhood Center was also honored for its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The organization was recognized for its commitment to embracing underserved populations, creating initiatives that advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the community and for The Neighborhood Center’s leadership in local diversity.
