The absence of reason — Part 4

Editor’s note: This is the fourth part of a four-part letter submitted by Ray Johnson, a DeLand resident.

For many years now (at least since 2015) our society has been overtaken by an order against rationality. Until we can get through the current legalities, restore reason, find truth and accountability, we will have a precarious democracy. The United States is not the only nation where the absence of reason prevails except it has reached epidemic proportions. Russia is a prime example of the train going “off-of-the-tracks.” Asia, Afghanistan, Iraq, some South American countries, and other Middle Eastern countries are others who have sought the path of anti-reasoning. The United States is not alone. We should be the shining example for all. Perhaps the USA is experiencing a return to rational thought under the current administration and the judicial system of laws. Politics must rest on truth and a moral foundation.

In looking at recent history, there appear to be some parallel similarities between the Nazi regime and NATO Allies of WW II and the current Russian/Ukrainian conflict. In both cases there appears to be a moral issue. Perhaps the Russian invasion was meant to provoke the adversary (and other NATO nations) into some self-damaging overreaction. As with the Nazi invasion where the European countries joined together to defeat the Nazis, why haven’t the western Europeans joined together in “full force” in support of the Ukrainians? Full force meaning all military resources to drive the Russians out. Declare WAR. Take the war to the enemy! Send in the jets!

Perhaps, just perhaps Russia is struggling for survival. Trying to bolster its declining state of existence. A decaying system that was imploding. Thus, it invaded Ukraine, which had a thriving economy.

Vladimir Putin – lust for power, madness at work, irrational behavior, what was he hoping to gain? Where many human victims are not indispensable; innocent women and children. Along with a lack of moral standards, flight from reason with a general aim toward weakening and demoralizing the Ukrainian people and the NATO nations. What are the origins of such lunacy?

The Jan. 6th lunacy and all of the issues before and after have similar parallel lines. The prison sentences handed down to the Proud Boys (may become martyrs) may ignite new waves of violence and terrorism. Not too unlike other dictators, Trump cheated contractors, architects and of course the government housing authorities; but why swindle a small contractor when you can swindle an entire city (NYC) and when you can swindle an entire country? All of those involved must be held accountable!

The absence of reason and the roar of insanity is the secret invasion we should all fear. George Orwell believed people do not make rational judgments at all, just political ones. Reason must prevail. We must solve our problems through truth and reason principally for the sake of improving the general well-being of all Americans.
